The crystal ball says...

I wish reading the future was easy.  Right now with K interviewing at many job places, it's a pain to wait and see which one will work out.  Or how the rest of things will work themselves out.  We have had some updates so our future isn't entirely unknown.  For a while though it was, and it was killing me and him.  A few weeks back K had gone up to Hill AFB to interview and it went great.  However, all they told him was he would find out in November if he made it.  This could be November 1 or November 30th.  K also applied to Google.  


He made it to the 2nd round of interviews after some hard phone interviews.  Google paid for him to fly up and stay in San Jose.  It was a "college day" so many students actually were there too for these all day interviews.  Most people were from large and presitgous colleges.  Stanford, Purdue, Carnegie-Mellon.  When K introduced himself and said that he was from UNLV one person didn't even know that it existed.  After intros he had interviews with Googlers.  These were harder than the phone interviews and he met with 3-4 different people with different problems for him to solve.  After all the interviews he got to go on a tour around their amazing office complex.  He enjoyed it there.


Last night he received a phone call from them though, and said that they weren't able to hire him at this time.  We were both disappointed, and he was quite sad.  K had not heard back from Hill yet either so he figured this was a good time to email them.  Today they responded back that he had been selected, but they are waiting for the paperwork on their side to be all completed.  It's not official but is now pretty certain.  


We'll see where life takes us, but right now it seems like Ogden Utah...here we come!

CAT woman

So last Friday for two of my college classes we went on a field trip.  No it wasn't to the zoo, planetarium or anything like that...it was to the local CAT dealership.  CAT (or technically Caterpillar) are the large yellow and black construction equipment that used to be seen everywhere.  We went there because of my Heavy Equipment class where we learn ALL about those things.  At first it was kind of exciting.  These machines are huge!  It was a long field trip of just walking and staring at similar machines so by the end of the trip I was tired and done.  However, I got to take a lot of pictures.  I tried to be more creative about the shots and lighting.  So here's a sampling below.

The largest scraper that there is.  That yellow scraper at the bottom is 24 feet long.  I probably only come up to the top of the rim on this giant machine.  This also is my favorite picture because of the beautiful sky behind.

Halloween in the woods

So this past weekend we went up to Utah, Duck Creek to be more specific, with my family.  We spent the time playing games (a lot of Bang!), homework, and playing Age of Empires.  We spent Halloween watching the new Race to Witch Mountain.  On Sunday we drove down to Glendale for church and visited with some Great Aunt and Uncles.  We also got to pick some fresh apples from a tree.  They were delicious!  After the visitations we continued driving home and stopped off in Zion National Park.  It was so beautiful there.  Leaves were changing, weather was actually warm.  We took a walk on the Zion Overlook Trail.  And then we also wandered a little down the River Walk Trail.  Here we saw two separate deer, that we got within 8' of.  It was amazing how they blended into their surroundings and were also unafraid of humans.  Sadly we had to continue home back to Vegas for another week of school.
