Family Shooting

Okay so my family does different type of shooting...gun shooting.  My sister was going with friends and my dad, and I had not been in forever so Kyle and I tagged along. All sorts of guns were there: handguns, shotguns, blackpowder guns, and an AR-27(?) too.  Here's some pictures with descriptions:

That is a black powder shotgun. Not too much kick but you can't see where you shot because of the powder. blowing in your face.

Okay, so one of Melynn's friend's dad is a police officer and this was an expired bullet-proof jacket (by a few years).  He wanted to test to see if it would still work.

All but one of the shells was stopped.  Some though did make huge dents into that palm tree.  The dad said those dents could still kill someone because of the large shock and internal injuries.  Scary.  The one gun to make it through...the AR-27 (?).

It was fun to pull out the different shells and lead between the various layers of the vest.  We didn't get around to shooting shotguns and clay pigeons.  We're going to try and do that a different time.

Hansen Family Photo Shoot

So I'm trying to work on my photography skills.  That is one of my goals for life.  Along with learn German (I've always wanted to), learn calligraphy and quilting and a few other things.  So what better way then to practice.  I convinced the Hansens to be my guinea pigs.  It seemed to all work out that weekend too.  Usually papa Hansen has church meetings...but he didn't.  Grandma usually isn't up for anything, but she was okay to go.  Everyone dressed in red, black and white.  Yes they are Valentine colors (the day we took the pictures) but more importantly they are UNLV REBEL colors!!!  Well, here is the sampling.  We did crazy poses and ideas, but it helped with the true smiling and quirkiness that makes up the family.

It was mucho fun though.  There were quite a few other pictures, and sorry I posted so many already.  Also, if you notice I am in the pictures.  I used a self-timer.  So some things probably could have been a bit better (timing wise even) if I didn't have to set it up....run into place...quick smile...then go check.  Although it did make some things more exciting.  Hope you enjoyed them.

Too much Spandex

So this weekend I finally got to see one of Jake's wrestling matches.  This wasn't just any match though...this was regionals.  The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of each weight division would get to go to state finals the following weekend.  It was hosted at Bonanza and was 2 days long.  On Friday we got there to watch...Jacob though had a bye his first game, his second opponent forfeited, so finally after 4.5 hours of waiting we see Jake play for 6 minutes.  Jake won that match.  During that few hours though we watched everyone wrestle from the quick and scrappy 103 lbs...to the jiggly heavyweight wrestlers.
On Saturday, Jake wrestled a kid from Palo Verde....and lost.  So now being in the consolation bracket he had to win each time to become 3rd place.  The next match was with a Pahrump Valley wrestler, who Jake had beaten before.  This time though, Jake was almost pinned, Jake was thrown...then suddenly Jake took control and flipped the guy, but it wasn't over yet.  There was some errors and discussion with the coaches and ref about the points.  Then both players are trying their best and everyone (definitely including me) is trying to encourage the wrestlers.  Finally Jake wins.
After this game he goes to the last game...whoever wins becomes 3rd place.  Jake started off okay, but got more points...then was called on an illegal move.  This put the other guy a head by one...and then the Durango kid got more points a few minutes later.  In the end Jake lost.  It was very sad.  So Jake got 4th place (which is still amazing), but no state.

That weekend Jake ate his heart out.  Monday we went to CiCi's pizza to help cheer him up.  The food did.  Here's a picture of just his dessert plate.

Fun Photoshoot

So this Monday while watching Grandma...I wanted to take pictures.  Since Kyle was with me, he agreed to be my guinea pig.  We went into the backyard, found the old playset and I shot away.  I thought it was fun, Kyle might have a different opinion.  Here's some of the photo (you can always click on it for a better view):

So it has been a busy week since I last wrote.  This is a long one so be ready...


The first thing up on the plate was watching Grandma H for about 29 hours straight...well i did get a 4 hour break to go to classes.  Mom and Pop Hansen were going out of town for a  Institute Couples Retreat/Seminar thing.  It was a few days and in Kingman, Arizona.  So Audrey and I split the time between us to watch Grandma during the day, and night. dun dun dun.  I took Wednesday, Wednesday Night, and Thursday.  Most of the time in the morning she looks like this:

However, we wanted to try and get her a little movin' and groovin' so we had her play Wii.  She's never played, and isn't a huge fan of video games in general.  We set up her little Mii character:

We had her play Wii Sports Tennis on Wednesday to warm her up, then on Thursday it was practice boxing.  Kyle and I both helped her, and we hope to continue it.  Here's a picture of Kyle and Grandma in action...

Taking care of Grandma all day and night though was a lot of work.  Mom and Pop Hansen are like saints to do it all day, everyday.


Also...ALSO, Thursday morning Kyle got an email from Hill AFB!!  The email told him he got the job, and his start date was pending on when he could send them the info by.  The start date they are thinking about isn't until April...which is fine with me because I get him in Vegas longer!


So, my previous post was all about packing up for the move into my parents place.  We finished in two days.  On Friday we had friends come over in the afternoon and evening and take out most of the large furniture, and all the packed boxes we could fit.  On Saturday Kyle's dad came over and helped haul and drive.  This allowed me to clean the whole apartment.  We finished Saturday evening and were exhausted.  All of our stuff is being stored right now, until we move up north.  It's a big mess, but we have to condense it to fit into one side.
