Baby Brother is Here!

The day arrived, but not the time.  I wasn't scheduled until 6pm, and it was a LONG day to wait.  In preparation for my surgery I wasn't allowed to eat food all day, except for a light breakfast.  Kyle had the day off to help occupy my nervous thoughts and my rumbling stomach.  Kyle's mom stayed and watched the kids while we ran errands and played games.

Dexter's new favorite game: Spot It Jr.!

Squeezing some last minute Mario Kart in before heading off
Time to GO!
Even though Ellie's arrival was not scheduled, the rest of it went pretty smoothly.  I figured and prayed that this one would to.  For the most part it did but there were some hiccups.

#1: I got to have 3 IV's poked in because the first two failed right after inserting.  The third time they had the anesthesiologist do it.  He got it, but it was a very painful insert and in a very sensitive location...the inside of my wrist.  Until this IV came out it hurt to even twitch my hand.

#2: Our little Flynn was the first of our children to be chilling in my belly the correct way.  Or so he was up until the literal last minute.  All through waiting until surgery time he was good.  When they went to pull him out...he was feet down.  So somewhere between walking from the surgery wait room and them going to pull him out, he flipped breech.  Ah, my crazy kids.

#3:  When I had Ellie, even though she was breech, she pretty much came out easily.  Not so with Flynn.  Poor guy had the umbilicle cord wrapped around his torso and then his arm.  Then his head was large (Hansen genes ;) )and took A LOT of work to get him out.  They were pushing on me in every which way they could, and for a long (c-section long) time to get that head out.  Usually this isn't bad, unless you have a 4th hiccup.

#4: There was apparently a section of my belly that wasn't as numb as I would have liked.  If it would have been an easy pull out, this wouldn't have been bad.  However, since there was a lot of work this became quite painful.  I think the anesthesiologist was hoping Flynn would be out quickly, but he eventually did have to add some extra pain stuff which made me super woozy.

However, after all that pushing and pulling that the doctor's did, Flynn finally arrived!!  He is perfect and healthy, and we love him lots!

So introducing:
Flynn Fletcher Hansen
July 14th at 7:31 pm
Weight: 7 lbs. 14 oz.
Height: 21"

Getting all cleaned up and tested out in the surgery room

Bundled up
It was close to 10:30 pm by the time I was finally situated in my final room, and the nurses gave me some quiet time.  Kyle stayed the night and helped me take care of Flynn that first night.
Next morning feeling good (especially with the pain killers)

Holding my new baby boy!

He's so cute

The next morning Kyle went home to get some sleep, then came back in the afternoon with some little visitors.
Looking at their new little brother for the first time

Giving him the gifts they chose out for him.  Ellie gave him a lion blanket rag, and Dexter gave him a book with Curious George.  Flynn in return gave them a book, Toy Story movie, and some playdough.

Dexter was eager to hold him...for about 30 seconds

He has a brother now

Ellie liked him for almost as long.

Giving him kisses (like I asked)

Dexter did it more willingly

Kyle would come stay a few hours with me each day.
He held Flynn lots.

And took lots of naps.
I opted to stay a little bit longer at the hospital, and had lots of time on my hands.  Once I was finally able to get up and walk.  (There were complications with that epidural block again.  Apparently, I'm just really sensitive and until it's out cannot feel or move my legs)

During all that quiet time I tried to get lots of rest and also try to sneak in some photos of Flynn.  I also snuggled him as much as I could because I knew that once home, things would be a bit busier.
Little tiny wrinkly toes

Beautiful profile

In the bassinet with his info

First bath...didn't like being scrubbed

But he loved his head being washed

Peacefully sleeping

Love his nose and pouty lips

One sock on, and one sock off

Love when babies sleep and they have some many facial expressions

My favorite was snuggling/sleeping with him during all our quiet times

One of our first snuggles.  He had lots of bruises and scratches on him from that umbilical cord and all the tugging the doctors had to do.  Here you can see some of them.

Chilling with momma

After his bath, the blonde hair was more noticeable

One of my favorite pictures...him just curled up on me
I did have some little visitors once again, and even some friends from my ward stopped by while they were there.  It was a big party in my little room.
They wanted to hold him this time.  Ellie loves his "tute little toes"

All on his own giving baby brother kisses

They were proud of the "Big Brother" and "Big Sister" wrist bands they got at security.  They also love the water and ice machine.

First family picture as a family of 5!!!
I got some beautiful roses from the Hansens, and then also my YW made a little welcome sign for Flynn and some others made us a cake.
Roses that helped brighten up my room

Cake made by some YW, and the sign made by my Mia Maids
On Saturday, he had an ultrasound to check out his hydronephrosis (fluid on his kidneys).  Still some, but nothing critical there.

Then, FINALLY it was time to go home.
Dressed in some real clothes

Dexter wore these on his way home from the hospital too (still Flynn above)

We made it home!!!!
