It's Heating Up!

So when we were first here we were excited because the weather was soooo wonderful.  Rain, cool temperatures.  Well, not anymore.  Summer has come up here and it is pretty warm.  Definitely not as hot as Vegas, but it's still getting up to mid to high 90's.  Not too bad, right?   WRONG!
Our little basement apartment doesn't have A/C....or a swamp cooler.  Like it does have A/C, but it hasn't been turned on from the winter yet and our landlord assured us that the 2 previous tenants before us never had it turned on.  I'm not agreeing...I might ask for it to be turned on.  That would mean higher power bills though.  I'm actually okay with the temperature at 77-82 inside as long as I don't do too much physical work, and Kyle can barely stand it.
How do we survive?  Well every morning and evening when it is still cool outside we pop open all the windows, put fans next to them and turn them on full blast.  This helps to cool the house off before I close it up.
We learned this weekend that we aren't the only crazy people to conserve power costs.  Keep reading...
On base they have free movies every now and then.  This Saturday was the new Alice In Wonderland.  We walk inside and it is warm.  All the doors are open and it's evident they too haven't turned on the air.

A blurry picture of us in the theater

It's pretty tolerable until the movie starts.  This is when they close the doors to make it dark.  This is also when Kyle and I are now sitting one seat apart for the entire movie.  It was so hot and stuffy in there by the end of the film that the 90 degree weather outside felt cool.  I think it was the furthest we've sat apart during a movie in a while.
Well...only 2 more months of summer!

  1. our apartment doesn't have AC, but we bought a portable swamp cooler at home depot... it only cools down one room, but it definitely help!
