The Little Broken Boy

On the Christmas post, it was left with this photo.

Dexter was playing with Aunt Melynn, and then got hurt.  It happened pretty fast, but it seems like his foot was tangled while she was pulling him up.  He cried a bit, then calmed down, but did not want to be touched.  He fell asleep from eating lots of Christmas candy and not taking a nap, but the night was full of restlessness and whimpering.

Kyle and my dad gave him a priesthood blessing in the morning.

No urgent cares were listed on our insurance, so we didn't want to go there.  We got a doctor's appointments, that morning.  At the doctor's she tested his leg and he didn't react like anything was broken or seriously injured.  She still wanted to check and sent him for an x-ray, with a follow-up for the next day.
Needed to have "blue blanket."  Ice seemed to help.  And watching Cars on the tablet while waiting for doctors.

We got the x-rays and at my parents house took a look on a lightbox.  There very clearly was a break...on his femur.  While on our way to the Hansen's, the doctor calls us back saying we needed to be seen right away.  She was so surprised with Dex's pain tolerance.  With a quick visit with this doctor she sent us to an Pediatric Orthopedic.

The final verdict is that he got a mid-femur spiral fracture.  At the specialist he got his cast.  A bodycast, for 6 weeks. Relief flooded his tired and exhausted face when that cast finally set.
Right after getting casted, and still at the doctor's office.

I need to record about that priesthood blessing.  I don't remember too much of it, but I do recall a specific phrase Kyle blessed Dex with.  "That you will be brave and strong today." That phrase was fulfilled like you can't believe.  Dexter would whine about getting in and out of the car for each of those stops.  And then up and down from waiting rooms and tables.  But that's all he did was whine, some whimpering, and silent tears rolling down his cheeks.  Each doctor when they saw him and once they knew of the broken femur both stated what a "brave and strong" boy he was.  Once I knew it was a broken femur, I was crying because of how much pain he had to be in and was enduring that day.  I know Heavenly Father was comforting and giving him love so much as we tried to figure out what was wrong.  That was a miracle of a blessing.

So far Dexter hasn't complained about the cast too much.  Days are fine, but the nights are much tougher on him.  Here's some pictures of him with his cast while we were still in Vegas.
Nub Nub and Papa making him laugh (codeine from his medicine also probably helped)

Playing with toys as best as he could

A little bit more chipper a couple days later.
